Comparing HongKong's MTR to Singapore's MRT
HongKong's MTR is highly comparable to Singapore's MRT because of the way both MTR and MRT works. HongKong's MTR started functioning since 1979 and transport about 5 million people everyday. It works 19 hours or more from 5.30am to 1pm.
The reporter had chosen the peak period to take the MTR in Central Station. It is observed that the rush hour in HongKong is not that crazy compared to singapore's rush hour. The MTR stations have wide walkway and wide platforms to give more walking space for the people to walk around. There is also internet kiosk for people to use.
The video shown that the concourse area look crowded but however, the platform of the station is isn't as crowded as expected. Both MTR lines have the same service, they are going the same way which decrease the waiting time. It is also 8 carriages long so as to be able to pick up as much passenger as possible.
Commuters do queue up while waiting for the train. The air-condition in the train is just nice and the air isn't stale.
Even though the MTR can be as packed as MRT, but the MTR still have wriggle space for people despite it during the rush hour and there's is a lot of people on board. The MTR arrives a lot more faster as compared to the MRT. The MTR arrives approximately 1 per every minute nonstop with constant flow traffic.
The MTR can be hectic but it isn't stressful because it is efficient, clean and comfortable.
